First person filming...?

My friend gave me an idea for a short film using the first person perspective. Look at it through the persons eyes. I want the actors hands to be free so what would you suggest doing? Has this been done? Does it work out well? I was thinking of making a helmet or mask with my minidv camera attached to it.

It is very common for students to try this kind of thing, at their beginnings it's a like a youth ill... that gets cured quite fast, actually.
