hi, i need to produce a 3 minute movie to enter a film school and would like to heed some advice. Aside from portfolio of films i had done, i have to include this movie to talk about myself. However, i should not be sitting in front of the cam talking about myself. Any ideas of how to express myself and tell them about myself in different ways??

Can't you show images in the form of a slideshow that put across your interests and maybe more about yourself. You don't have to talk, but show titles or maybe even statements of what you think, gliding across the screen.

When I say slideshow I don't mean your usual powerpoint one image followed by another but overlapping possibly even abstract.

I remember someone applying for a job who had used an average day in their life and put it across in a comical way. It was different and gained attention.

yes i can i can do that, however i need to master my after effects as i am really new to it. I need to figure how to do grid effects where the same video/different videos appears in a 3x3 grid for eg.

You just need to mask the clips. Then actually animate the masks. Remember that you aren't just stuck with using square shapes it can be anything in-fact you can even morph the masks (simple example would be a circle to a square).

If you need help I can create a basic tutorial on my website (including images) of how to do this in after effects... step by step. All I would need to know is the version you are using?

if you can help me with that, that would be so useful!! i'm using after effects 7.0 . as i am really new to after effects, hope you would make it as 'step-by-step' as possible. thanks loads!

p.s. what is masking??

ok thanks! i'll try that out and get bak to you. hmm, do you know how i can key out a person and have the person with changing backgrounds??

It all depends on a few things: :?:

Would you be doing it in after effects (using keylight) or do you have final cut pro instead?

Also has the person been filmed on a green/blue screen or filmed with a background i.e. street which would mean having to mask them.

If you could send me a still image of the person/presenter footage you are using that would help... that's if it has been filmed yet!
