If I have a 250GB internal hard drive, I wouldn't need an external hard drive, would I? For a short video that is.

if you have 250 gigs of internal space i think you have enough for a short.

Do you plan on editing DV or uncompressed or MJPEG...or?

For DV it should be enough, but keep in mind that the real-time preview promises of your NLE software manufacturer may not come to pass with storing media on the C: drive (or a Mac system drive) as those drives need to dedicate bandwidth to system operations.

So it's probablt enough space...it just may not be as fast as using an external drive. No harm done if you can deal with a bit more rendering through the edit process...

...this should be the case with a 250, but verify that it's a 7200rpm.
