I am curious about space ship design. Are there space ship specialists? It is so important for me when i see a space ship that it look like something that could fly and travel in space. If it looks like a box or a shoe or something with major wind resistance surfaces i can't get into the movie. I keep thinking about atmospheric resistance when entering and leaving a planets surface and how that box would not make it. Who designed the Star Trek space ships including the Enterprise? Who designed the Star Wars and Battlestar Galactic space ships? Did George Lucas sit down with an artist and tell them what he wanted or did the artist read the script and come up with what was needed? Probably both, right? When you want to have a space ship in your movie is there a tried and true process? Is there a group of "Space Ship Designers" who specialize in space ships or do you just get a CGI artist and tell them what you want? Is there a philosophy applied. Do space ships have any required criteria? Anyone do any space ship design? What is the process? What is the cost?
