Columbia College Chicago

I'm planning on attending Columbia College Chicago this fall as an Undergrad with a concentration in Directing and was wondering how does this school rank amongst schools like NYU, USC, FSU, etc.

Plain and simple it doesn't. It's an open admissions school and you'll run in to a varying degree of dedication among the students. That doesn't nessecarily mean you can't be successful by going there...just that you won't find as active of a community and the connections that will be a huge asset in your career quest.

Hum, Everyone I've talked to, says it is one of the top 5 film schools in the US. From my visit to the campus and talking with present students it seem like a great school. What I heard about open admission is that you can get into the school, but the question is can you STAY in. It's way more affordable compared to NYU, USC, etc. I'm not worried about anyone else and their dedication to learn filmmaking. I know that I'll have to give it my all to become a great filmmaker and that's my intent.

First off, "top 5" doesn't really tell you anything because there are several different authorities making "top _" lists all the time. Going to film school wont be about textbook learning....it will be about making connections and learning through experience, which is extremely difficult to do on your own. Ask any expert in the industry, the value of film school is 80% community, 20% academics. Again, none of this means you won't become what you want. You asked how it compares, and I told you based on what I know. Best of luck making a decision.
