changing aspect ratio to 4:3 after the event. please help!

i have imported lots of footage that was in widescreen (editing images for a friends showreel) and had my final cut pro settings to 4:3 as i thought this would leave me with my footage as a letterbox picture. however when i played my final film back, it seems to be squashed it even more than letterbox and i don't know how to adjust it. can anyone help or tell me how i can manually distort the wireframe or image so that it is as close to the original as possible. can i just stretch the image so it is taller. thanks in advance. jennifer.

In the viewer panel, click on the motion tab and open "Distort". While I have not had the exact problem that you describe, you may be able to play with the settings to get to the aspect ratio you desire. Good luck. JimT
