cannon gl-2? used camera needed for newbie

Any advice on a used digital camera for 500-700 dollars? I will be in a Documentary film class in 2 weeks and need something decent, but I cannot spend $1500+ on a camera, right now.

I noticed that the Cannon GL-2 sells in this price range on Ebay. I will have editing decks at school and I have a Powerbook G4.

Suggestions?
