Agile Rascal Bicycle Touring Theatre seeks an independent and experienced documentary filmmaker to invite on our next touring project through Washington, Oregon, and Northern California in the Summer of 2021. Is that you? Have any interest in a unique documentary subject and adventure in the age of climate change that is fun, creative and ambitious?

A little about us: We are the first theater company in America to tour original plays exclusively on bicycles. We are 5 years old, and have completed 3 tours (X-country: Bay Area to NYC, Montana, and Florida)
Our mission is to make innovative, new theater accessible, promote cycling as a viable means of transportation, inspire reverence for our natural landscape and to foster creative connections between artists, activists and cyclists.

We are hoping to build on our documentation partnerships that started with New York Times published journalist and author Susan Freinkel. Susan asked to join us on tour in Florida with interest in documenting the trip for an independent book project she could write. We are hoping to develop a symbiotic relationship with a filmmaker who has the same self-driven interest in us as a subject while also satisfying our need for quality documentation.

Maybe you are: An independent filmmaker working in documentary or interested in documentary subjects, who enjoys the adventure of documentary research and the topic of climate change. Someone who has the physical ability to carry their own outdoor film equipment inventory on bicycle, with no support vehicle access. Max 2 person crew to accompany us on an adventurous ride through the stunning landscapes of the Pacific Northwest.

The Nitty Gritty-
  • Self-funded. Though we are absolutely willing to help find and write grants to support this project financially.
  • Pre-production to begin June of 2020, Post production and editing is in your hands, though we would like access to footage for promotional purposes.
  • Your accommodations (camping fees or hosted space), mechanical aid and communal meals will be covered on the trip. In these aspects you will be considered a part of the company at large. We do our best to take care of everyone’s safety and well-being on tour.
  • BYO bike, camping gear, and film equipment. We can help source panniers and other touring luggage if need be
