Anton Bauer NiMh Batteries

ok I've finally made my decision, I'm going with the JVC HD110, and for the next month or so there is a promotion that gives away a free Anton Bauer battery and adapter for the camera. The thing is, it's a NiMh (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery.

On all their other batteries, A/B advertises that they don't build up a "memory effect" but they don't advertise that for these NiMh batteries. So my question is, are these the type of batteries that will develop a memory effect and not retain their full charge if I put them on the charger after a shoot and it's not fully empty?

And if so, is there a way to reset that memory effect?

Well, if they are free . . . . even if they do not last forever, they are worth getting. You can always replace them with something later if they are not good anymore.

You can read about NiH batteries here, where it says, among other things:

A NiMH battery can have two to three times the capacity of an equivalent size NiCd and the memory effect is not as significant.

NiMH batteries do develop a charge memory so if you don't use all the battery and charge it back to full eventually it will develop a shorter charge. It takes a while and quite a few uses to do this, though. And there is a way to bring them back. It is very time consuming but it could potentially extend their life after they seem to be dead. Basically you'd use it until it's dead. I mean really dead. If the camera turns off and you are still able to turn it on for ANY length of time it still has a charge. So if you COMPLETELY use the charge and then put it on the charger and repeat the process quite a few times it should build the batteries memory back and extend its useful life. Like I said it takes quit a while. But I think you'd be a fool to not take a bargain like that while you can. Camera betteries usually don't come cheap. Good luck and happy shooting.
