I've been making random films for youtube for a while, but I want to take a step up. I'm only in 9th grade, but I want to be able to make pretty good stuff for things like my school's film festival. What's the best thing I can get for roughly $500? Should I get a good camera from a couple years ago, or something new?
Thanks in advance...

$500 probobly won't get you any camera at the level you're thinking of to be completely honest. Used or otherwise.

I would recommend saving your money, or renting.

You might look into Canon's consumer HV camera, the Canon HV-20 or 10 or something. It's relateively cheap, maybe a few hundred more than your current budget...

Sorry dude, but for $500 you're not going to get a good camera. At the very least, you should go for a GL1...that will run you a couple thousand. $500 will probably get you a decent camera for home movies, but not what you're thinking of.
