    Shooting Red - Exposure

Thanks. Thats why I asked, someone who had shot with the camera said they found themselves lighting too contrasty and ended up with noisy shadows. On a side note I also notice that the RAW is a bit darker, do you need to adjust/compensate exposure for that? Or is it a bit darker to protect from...

    Shooting Red - Exposure

When shooting on the red which is the best way to determine your exposure in monitor. I've read up on all the tools and have gotten good advice to treat it like a 320ASA film stock. But in terms of the monitor what is giving you a better idea of what your getting the RAW mode or whatever your...

Can you treat the Red like a film stock?

I have my first short project on the Red Camera. I've worked with it as a assistant on some small music videos so I understand the menus and what not. I was wondering if you can treat the 320 ASA as a film stock? Meaning is it bad for the sensor to rate it 1/3 slower? I've worked with some DPs...

    White Cyc Floor

Thanks. I was thinking about using a 5k fresnal bounced into a 12x12 of something. Though what's the best way to create some contrast? I am keying from the side I guess the top light can act as some fill without flattening out the image.

    White Cyc Floor

When shooting on a white cyc how do you get the floor to be white without space lights? If you get the bg lit with 2 5k's (20-30 ft cyc) pull the talent out and light them with kinos or diffused 5k does the bounce from all the white fill the floor enough to make it seem like "white limbo?" My...

    Daylight Fill With Multiple Shadows

What is the best way to fill for day lit interiors? I've had problems where I've key from the window side and filled on the other and I have two shadows that fall on the ground. Do you most of the time light with a soft source and just let it wrap around? Or is the fill light diffused to the...

    Thin Neg.

With mild overexposure of stock (1/3 slower) and underexposing by one stop, for certain times like backlit sun or night stuff do you end up with a thin Neg? I assume with Vison 3 and newer stocks it doesn't look two different than normal exposure. Have only shot reversal which has no lat. Just...

    One More Question About Metering

This is more about exposure. But what is the best way to handle darker skinned actors/actresses? If your purposely underexposing them for an effect (moonlight, etc) and reflected they are already 2 stops under the reading for the key light does that mean you don't underexpose?

    Meter Question?

I was reading the book cinematography on practical meter tips. It said when your key light comes from the side most camera people angle the meter halfway between the light and the optical access, that it gives a good split for a reading. Wondering if this works well, I was told just to meter the...

    Film Lat

Hey, New to the forum. I just recently shot my first project on film (Super 16 Kodak 7217). I'm used to working primarily with digital+lens adaptor. Just a little nervous about my exposure, especially in a scene where I had the talent backlit by light coming in from a window and then I filled...
