    Sony FX1 of Sony Z1?

Depends on what you're doing. The Z1 gives you XLR inputs, some extra image control options, more timecode options, the ability to shoot PAL and NTSC, etc.

    Video 8 and cameras

You'll need some kind of analogue to digital conversion, and the picture quality is similar to VHS.

What kind of editing software does say universal use

Exactly. I don't believe you'd disagreeing with what the earlier poster said... they don't edit at that resolution, they do the edit at lower resolution and then finish it on a much more sophisticated (and expensive) system.

WHAT CAMERA?? $7000 TO SPEND BUT NEED HELP!!

If you really have that much money to spend on hardware, I'd get a Canon XLH1 and a good mike to go with it (e.g. Senheisser 416 or MKH60)... I think that's in your price range. However, you may well be better off with a cheaper camera and a good editing system, if you don't have one already.

Take Film of a Television Screen

Set the frame rate to 1/60 (for NTSC), but you'll still get tearing if you move the camera. The other option is to replace the TV screen in post: that's what I ended up doing on the short I shot a while back, though that was because of reflections on the screen rather than flickery pictures.

How does Hi-Def differ (or compare) to digital?

I'm sorry, but many of us here have been editing DV for years, so I'm afraid that claiming that cuts-only editing of DV footage causes any degradation other than due to dropouts on the tape and Firewire will just make you look silly. This is a simple fact, I'm not sure why you're trying to...

How does Hi-Def differ (or compare) to digital?

No you're not. You're perfectly correct that if you open a JPEG file in Photoshop, edit it and save it back to a JPEG file you'll lose quality. But you're 100% wrong in claiming that if you do a cuts-only edit of DV footage that the editing program will recompress the footage that hasn't changed.

How does Hi-Def differ (or compare) to digital?

No it's not, unless you change the video in some way, or it uses inter-frame compression. DV editing using straight cuts will simply copy the digital data from the original file into the new file. Note the 'alter'. Most editing requires at most one stage of 'altering' the file (e.g. color...

    failure to find preroll point

The other situation in which I've seen similar problems (though with Premiere, not Avid) is when you're capturing DVCAM from a MiniDV deck. The program can get very confused if the deck gives it DV timecode in fast-forward and rewind, but then switches to the correct DVCAM timecode when it...

    Erasing Lines

Not sure about After Effects, but Fusion has a wire-removal tool where you just mark the lines on the shot and it automatically removes them (with a few sliders for how wide the wires are, etc). As well as wires I've used it for removing power cables, etc, that were accidentally left in the...

The video card doesn't matter that much for video editing, other than that Avid don't like non-nvidia cards: even a 6600 should be plenty powerful enough.

How to clean the camera head?

If that fails, isopropyl alcohol can be used to clean dirt from the heads, but I'm not sure of the details of how to do it safely.

can you explain me how to write an editing concept ?

I've never heard of the term. I guess he's basically asking you to describe how you would edit that kind of film?

    Beginner Tutorials

Avid will import .avi files, though I'm not sure whether you're limited to 2GB files as you are with export. It will also import .m2t files from HDV cameras, but there's currently a bug where it can't handle .m2t files more than about 25 minutes long... the 5.2 version worked with files of any...

    Beginner Tutorials

If you go to the Avid site and download the latest version of Xpress Pro there's some sample footage included, though I haven't looked to see what's in there. It's a few hundred megabytes though.

    Guerilla Film-need advice on sound!

The real problem will be finding a decent mike for that price. There are small 'shotgun' mikes that attach directly to cameras and would be relatively inconspicuous, but I've no idea whether they're any good.

Avid questions - could use some assistance.

And a Mac :). Though frankly, given how much Vista appears to suck, I may be buying a Mac next time anyway.

Yes. Though the cheap ones may not give you manual control over shutter speed.

    I hate previews

IMHO the worst thing is the 'anti-piracy' ads. Um, hello? I've just _paid_ to watch this movie, and you're preaching to _me_ about piracy? Maybe you'd do better to be preaching to those who are busy downloading it off the Internet, not those who are actually paying to watch it. They're almost...

    Special Effect in "Ghost"

I don't know how they did it then, but today I suspect you'd do it as CG. Probably not too hard if you know someone who's competent at animation and compositing.
