    Sony's HDVCAM prototype

PS-The new Sony European HVR-V1e isn't a Z1e replacement, but joins the line as a 1080p25 camera. I'm speculating a USA version will have 60i, 30p, possibly 50i/25p (I'm not sure, though), and I think 24p. Again, this is an educated guess, but I think Sony's going to put that stuff in the US...

    Sony's HDVCAM prototype

Re: Z1J HDV HDCam Re: Z1J HDV HDCam Not true at all. The Z1 takes full advantage of its sensor (960x1080) and with its non-square pixels and pixel-shift, it goes to 1440x1080 without a problem. Panasonic does something similar with their HVX200, which its sensor size is 960x540 and it goes...

anyone make a short on HDV?

Good point. The zoom in he's referring to is called Expanded Focus. If you think you're in focus in HDV, you're likely not. Even if it's off by a hair, HDV (and HD) will look bad, unlike DV which is more forgiving with a very slightly out-of-focus shot. heath

    Sony's HDVCAM prototype

I know this is a bit old, but I want to say the Sony Z1 is an excellent camera and can capture some great HDV footage! I wouldn't use it if I didn't like it, and it ranks right up there with the DVX's for me. I wish it shot 24p, but conforming 50i/CF25 video to 24p in Final Cut and Cinema...

    RED DIGITAL CINEMA CAMERA COMPANY

Kinetta doesn't have the financing and engineers RED has--a billionaire and his investors are backing it. It's being run by the owner of Oakley sunglasses. If it works, great, if not, at least people are trying. Of course, 4k can't really be cut right now... heath

anyone make a short on HDV?

The Z1's LCD can be calibrated (use a Hoodman, though). Keep in mind, an SD monitor is 601 colorspace and HDV is 709, so colors may not match. If you can, get a cheap LCD HDTV, even if it's 720p, and calibrate. I've directed two shorts, one shot on the HD10 and the other on the FX1. I...
