    Black and White Video

Hi ! If you want to record B/W, it all depends on the camera you're using. Professional cameras usually allow to do this, but I think the best is to do it in post. It's very easy to set your monitor to B/W on the set (just turn the chroma off). Afterwards, you can do what you want, even end in...

    Lighting Query???

Ok, I didn't figure out it was so small, sorry about that. I like the kino idea even much better if it's that small. You have to mind that an open-face (either redhead or blondie) doesn't look too nice when lighting people directly - or do you wish to use diffusion on it ? the light would then...

    situational lighting technique question

    1) Make-up ! 2) Light can help a bit : Thinner : use silk diffusion Older : in addition to the make up, a hard contrast light, low key can help Younger : diffusion filter on the camera might help : Soft FX, Black or white Promist, Low con, even a tight at the bottom of the lens or in front...

    Lighting Query???

Do you have some light coming in the room through a window or not ? If not, the best way to justify some highlits is to make as you'd have windows, out of frame. Mind that kinos are not very powerfull, so at a long distance, they won't lit a very large place... I wouldn't say you have too...

    Sony Z1U

Hi Kim and eveybody ! Sorry I'm a bit late on this thread - I've been very busy these last months and I am afraid I still am - but... I have a very precise question about HDV in general, it concerns editing and post production, better than using the camera itself. There is no doubt that for...

    First person filming...?

It is very common for students to try this kind of thing, at their beginnings it's a like a youth ill... that gets cured quite fast, actually. The subject has already been discussed actually, try with the search engine. It is worth a try, anyway. Good luck !

    shutter angle

Actually I know of bipale/two blades shutters for projection only. I don't know if any camera is equiped with such a shutter. The 172°8 angle would have no sense, then. I d'really need know where you found that, in what context.

    shutter angle

What is a butterfly shutter ? Is it a bipale one ? If so, you have 2 angles instead of 1. Just have each of them at 90°, it makes the whole aperture being 180°. If you have one at 90 ° and you can set the other as you like, it's not a problem settibg it at 82.8 so that the whole aperture is 172.8.

    What does "MOS" stand for?

MOS stands for "Mit Out Sound", it means no sound is recorded. It defenetly has nothing to see with Optical Sound ! This appears on sceenplays and clapbords, nothing to see with screenings !

    Noise

Of course blacks are not as beautiful with video as with film, but one consider that video has more problems with highlights (saturated) than with blacks, in general. It sounds like you should improve the way you set your iris as well as configure correctly your monitor and examine your light...

    Noise

Hi, As David sys, the settings are very important. But if you duidn't make any chage, one should think the "factory" setting should be fine, unless it is a cheap amateur camera. Can you tell us what camera it was, if you have an idea of the settings you used etc. Also, did you notice that...

    Super 16mm or 35mm ?

If you care a lot about image quality, one should say you should go for 35 mm. The only point is the cost compared to Super 16 (I would forget about 16 because of the 1/3 ratio, unless you want it). It's not too difficult to compare the price : multiply the length stock and process length by 3...

    anything negative?

It's my experience with the industry in France. I worked in different countries, but it was quite always based on a french company. But I'm not sure it's much different in other countries. I often worked with foreign people and it feels like being basically the same everywhere. One thing one...

    Shooting schedule

Hello Justin, Welcome to the forums ! I would follow the advice about actors. Make as they have their days in a series of days better than one day per week along 3 weeks for instance. Your second point is : locations. Group them so you don't plan too many travels. It helps a lot. Consider 2...

    hello

Hello Marie, and welcome to these forums. First of all, I would say that the budget you need depends on many factors you don't give us enough elements in your post. What format do you wish to shoot ? do you own the camera or are lent or plan to rent it ? do you have a cinematographer, and need...

    anything negative?

Just to add, about negetive points, if ever you may not be aware of those : 1) You never know what's going to happen next, if you will find work in the next days, months etc. You may have wonderful projects that never issue as well, or see a friend of yours getting the job you thought was for...
