i built my own steadicam for pretty cheap using this website: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/steadycam used parts from a local hardware store, ended up costing me around $25-30, buying extra parts for extensions and whatnot, and took less than 30 min to put together. worked pretty well for me...
