If I want to print an HDV project to a standard definition DVD using Apple's Compressor and DVD Studio Pro, which settings do I use? I've used the H.264 Setting, 1080i Standard Compression, and I forget the other one. None of them will play in a regular DVD player. Can someone help me out?

i'd recommend doing it in post too. that way if you don't like how it looks in B&W you can always leave it in color. But if you record it that way, you have no option.

what you could do, since it is at the very top of your frame, is just increase the scale a little bit to crop it off the screen, I've done that before and as long as you keep it below like 120% scale, quality loss isn't an issue

i just got out of a live support chat with a rep from B&H. He said that the Sony VTR will play and transfer the HDV signal (1080i30 and 24f) with no problem.

you could see if your camera has an S-Video or Component input, and find a dvd player that has a similar output, put a minidv tape in your camera and play the dvd and record it on your camera.

you could just have the camera pointing up at the assailant from the ground and have your assailant hitting something that isn't your other actor. or you could just swing softly but make it look convincing and add in sound in post.
