    movie critique

Read Film Directing: Shot by Shot. http://www.amazon.com/Film-Directing-Visualizing-Concept-Productions/dp/0941188108 In particular, learn about camera placement and how not to "cross the line". Here is a wiki article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/180_degree_rule

How do I edit on 2 pcs with premiere?

We regularly do this at my shop with large external hard drives. We have a few 1.5 GB disc arrays that are FireWire 800. We keep all the work files, vid clips, photoshop files for any one project on a single external disc and pass it around the office as needed. We have a network, but we often...

    Terrified?

pharpsied - It sound like you are doing some really cool stuff. Way to go. Same for you, BenB. Looks like you guys are making good contributions to the community and art as a whole. All - Lets continue this spirited discussion/argument by discussing and arguing the subject matter, and...

    Terrified?

I guess I will jump into this rather alarmist thread to contribute my 2¢. I like all you guys, but there is quite a bit in here with which I disagree. I don’t believe anyone is: • in grave danger • nearing extinction • going to be crushed I do believe that: • indie filmmakers have more...

    Panasonic AG-HVX200 format question

You can only record standard-def to tape. All high-def resolutions must go to the P2 cards. The standard-def quality on tape will vary from camera to camera. Depends on the sensors, the glass, the compression, etc. Hard to say if one camera is better than the other without side-by-side...

Aristotle's Poetics for Screenwriters- ever heard of it?

Hey Pharpsied, Glad you enjoyed the book. Aristotle really dissected the subject throughly, and Michael makes it very readable. Thanks for plugging the podcast. I had never done a book review on the show before and although it did not turn out as good as I wanted, I guess it seemed to get the...

    Aren't we filmmakers?

pharp, give us more details on the story. It's no use to design a scene in a vacuum. What else is happening for which the design of the scene could be a metaphor?

    Aren't we filmmakers?

No offense esp4ever, but we have seen that room so many times, it is expected. Lets try to set it in a surprising location. It could even surprise the interrogation subject if, for example, it took place in the hallway on the way to the interrogation room. Or maybe they stop the elevator on...

Need Help. On playback, footage keeps breaking up.

I don't have a SonyHDR-FX7, but your resolution choice caught my eye. It would seem that 1080i (a 16x9 format) might act wacky if you then also tell it to be 4x3. Am I missing something here or guiding to a solution. Not sure. Anybody?

    iMac for editing vs. PC

I have used both system, and a few otheres (anyone remember the VideoCube, or the NewTek Toaster) extensively for the past few decades. I still have a Mac and PC on my desk, but do all my production on a Mac. I find that I spend more time creating on a mac, and more time fixing problems on a...

What's the best camera for under $1000?

I am changing my mind. I think I will wait for the Canon Vixia HF100. http://www.macworld.com/article/131431/2008/01/vixia.html

    Film School

I was talking about this subject with a screenwriter friend recently and here are two very good points he made: 1. Film school is a great way to get real exposure to every aspect of film production. Especially if you go out on your own, it is good to have a basic knowledge of every step from...
