It's a great book! and funny, too. I would highly reccomend it to anyone, regardless how much experience you have. (too bad I'm not getting paid for this endorsment)
if you are VERY careful about it, the film will survive. I am a projectionist at a movie theater, we have had take up platters break before and wound up with entire movies on the floor of the booth. Just be extra careful and spread it out as much as possible. This is a worst-case scenario...
i don't know anyone personally, but i recently purchased a book entitled "how to shoot a feature film for under $10,000 and not go to jail" In the book, the author (Bret Stern) dedicates a few sections to editing your actual film, rather than electronically
