Community Spotlight: Cade Hopwood

The Last Black Unicorn
In today's Community Spotlight, I am joined by Cade Hopwood, who is currently working on his first feature film, "Land Uncharted".

I saw your original two posts on the forums. I had no idea it is this difficult for you to film your feature film. Don't let the hardships discourage you, the idea is very good and even if there are not many dinosaurs movies, don't think for a second that the fans of dinosaurs movies are in small numbers. If it were, Kong: Scull Island wouldn't have gotten a 566,7 million dollars. It is a good thing that not many people do such movies because you have a chance to stand out of the crowd.

For sure, the second movie will be easier to shoot because you will have experience and I don't think you will need to use the stop-motion technique and so much green screen. The hardest work will go on the plot because it has to be epic, it has to have more plot twists and it has to be accurate. Until then, the movie you are working on is looking very promising and it has gotten many of us very excited to see it. I will follow your updates on the forums as you progress with your movie! Can't wait to see a trailer to be honest!

Well it actually wasn’t very difficult, just a bit confining due to limited green screen space. Overall it was fun and a great learning experience. This film is a great passion project for me.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, inevitably my second film (“Primordial”) will be more refined. That’s the goal, to improve with each production. As far as the plot goes for that one, I’ve got it figured out pretty well (I’m starting the script soon actually), and when you boil it down it’s a fairly simple but powerful time travel drama. Twists? Not necessarily in the way you’d think...but time will tell.

Thank you so much for the interview and opportunity Maura, I’ll get you that photo asap. To avoid cringing hard at myself I’m going to avoid watching it, but I’m glad more people are excited about Land Uncharted now.

And I’d like to add that all filmmaking is challenging, and I think that’s a good thing. I dislike being the center of attention, so if you read my uncomfortable ramblings as dissatisfaction with the filmmaking process itself then I’d like to clarify that I had great fun making my little adventure movie. Not many people can say they’ve done that.

The interview came out really well! But I understand if you wish to avoid watching it, I have the same anxiety when I watch myself in a video. :)

I do feel a bit concerned that I came off as a little negative, when in truth it was a wonderful experience to bring my pet project to life.

It is one of the best feelings to bring your movie to life! :D When will we be able to see "Land Uncharted"? Or at least a trailer/preview? I am so excited about it!

Simple but powerful time travel drama? Sounds promising! 💪

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself man. You talk with so much passion about your movie and I can imagine you enjoy every second of making it, even though you met a few challenges that you had to overcome. Not many people get to work on their passions, most of them do jobs they hate for money so...I guess you are lucky :)

I wasn’t being hard on myself? I’m just trying to get you to understand what my true intention was, since you seem to have misinterpreted my listing off production challenges as actual complaints (which they weren’t). Also, thank you for your encouraging words but you’re mostly repeating what I just said back to me, as if I hadn’t heard it before. I know what I’ve already said sir…in fact, I’m the one who said it. Now I understand that communication isn’t ideal on these forums and tone is hard to read, but please let’s have some more common sense than this.

roger that :)

Your movie sparks excitement in other people because it is so rare to see people working so hard to make a good movie. These days, everything is so superficial and rushed. There are more people like you that are looking for movies that Hollywood doesn't provide.
