Hi all!

I installed Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.0 yesterday. Everything seamed to be OK. When I started Avid, it started loading and I got the following message:

"Exception: ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR"

I press OK and Avid exits...

I have an ASUS motherboard with Realtek High Definition Audio, 1GB RAM, 3.0GHz hyperthreading, WinXP SP2.

What is wrong??? Is it my sound card?

this is a small glitch sometimes Avid likes to do... Your sound MIGHT be on mute...

THATS JUST ME!?!?! but usualy, when its not on mute, it tends to fix that problem...

Happens on macs allllll the time... just make sure your volume is on.

And if that doesnt work this is what Avid's official site says to doo...

Remove the third Party Capture card, and uninstall all software related to the capture card.

Check the Sound and Audio settings within Control Panel.

o Click on the Start Menu
o Choose Control Panel (Settings – Control Panel)
o Double Click on Sounds and Audio Devices
o Click on the Audio Tab
o Check that the Sound Playback Device and Sound Recording devices match in the drop-down menus. (Use either the Onboard Audio Device, or an approved Soundblaster Card*.)
o Check the Use Only Default Devices checkbox at the bottom of the window.
o Click Apply.

Note: You may need to restart your computer.

Yes, I'm afraid it is your soundcard. I know this problem from a friend of mine. According to the Avid website, Realtek soundcards are not supported by the software. As far as I can remember, is was meant to work with Avid HD 5.2 and higher. So, I'm afraid with 5.0, you will need to check this with an external/different soundcard installed.

Well, if you have Xpress Pro 5.0, you can download 5.2.x from Avid's site.

I'm sure it worked with my on-board Realtek sound in 4.x, but I bought an Audigy 2 before I upgraded to 5.0.
